Helped a fast growing consumer packaged goods company develop its demand planning and operations planning models and processes

Situation

A leading CPG company with a renowned national brand, was looking to improve its demand forecasting and operations planning processes. The client also required analytical rigor and support to better forecast and track sales, promotions and stock outs to efficiently plan for future growth.

Analytical Solution

Merilytics provided analytical solutions to generate demand forecast for top-retailers using statistical tools based on historical data normalized for promotions, distribution, stock-outs and non-recurring events, and further adjusted for future promotions & distribution changes. In addition, we worked with the S&OP and Sales teams to set-up the overall monthly demand forecasting process.

Our models allowed the flexibility to overlay various corporate adjustments at a customer and category level on the consolidated forecast. We also extended the solutions to generate shipment scheduling models for the Operations planning team.

Impact

The improved demand planning processes and models enabled the client increase their monthly forecasting accuracy to 99%, i.e., actual monthly sales were within 100 bps of the annual forecasted plan for an extended period.
